Designer: Arne Jacobsen, 1967

The shape is defining, not only in the naming.

After Jacobsen's designs were available, a long process began before the Cylinda Line was market-ready in 1967. The design created a unique appearance with only the essentials. The logical construction of all vessels based on cylinders and hemispheres is astonishing. The same basic shapes are used for a wide variety of functions. For example, Marianne Brandt, who at the Bauhaus already in 1927 developed an entire service series based on the hemisphere. The initial production of the Cylinda Line caused problems. Stainless steel, highly demanding in processing, deforms undesirably with the slightest inaccuracies in the tools. The manufacturer first had to develop machines and welding techniques to implement the designs, which are technically challenging precisely because of the stereometry.
