The design classic was created in 1924 by Wilhelm Wagenfeld himself. As the first model, the then 24-year-old Wagenfeld, who had just been taken on as a journeyman in the Bauhaus workshop in Weimar, made this lamp following a task set by Moholy-Nagy. As Wagenfeld said, the Bauhaus designs were meant to be industrial products and looked that way. In reality, however, they were produced on a handcrafted basis. And this lamp is now made exactly according to the original specifications, in size and material.
The reissue began at Tecnolumen in 1979, deliberately following the significantly reduced design by Wagenfeld. Of course, they took on both variants of the lamp, which still fit into any ambiance and are merely a matter of taste regarding which lamp base model one chooses. While the designer's first draft featured a nickel-plated base, the glass base was designed in the same year and still appeals to a broad audience today.
