The shape is defining, not only in the naming. After the designs by Jacobsen were presented, a long journey began before the Cylinda Line was market-ready in 1967. The design created a unique appearance with only the essentials. The logical construction of all vessels based on cylinders and hemispheres is astonishing. The same basic shapes are used for a wide variety of functions. As already seen with Marianne Brandt, who at the Bauhaus in 1927 built an entire service series based on the hemisphere. The production lead-up of the Cylinda Line initially caused problems. Stainless steel, highly demanding in processing, deforms undesirably with the slightest inaccuracies of the tools. The manufacturer first had to develop machines and welding techniques to be able to implement the designs, which are technically demanding precisely because of the stereometry. (OEM)
