Designer: Arne Jacobsen, 1967

The shape is distinctive, not only in the naming. After Jacobsen's designs were presented, a long journey began before the Cylinda Line was market-ready in 1967. The design created a unique appearance with only the essentials. The logical construction of all vessels based on cylinders and hemispheres is astonishing. The same basic shapes used for a wide variety of functions. As already seen with Marianne Brandt, who at the Bauhaus in 1927 developed an entire service series based on the hemisphere. The production lead-up of the Cylinda Line initially caused problems. Stainless steel, highly demanding in processing, deforms undesirably with the slightest inaccuracies of the tools. The manufacturer first had to develop machines and welding techniques to implement the designs, which are technically challenging precisely because of the stereometry. (OEM)
