In 1922, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed the "Friedrichstrasse High-Rise" with a trident floor plan and a glass facade. Three elevators form the core, and the interior appears open. The high-rise remained a concept and was not feasible at the time. The design emphasizes the lightness of the building in contrast to the heavy structure of Berlin's old buildings.
