Designer: Mies van der Rohe, 1922

In 1922, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed the "Friedrichstrasse High-Rise" with a trident floor plan and a glass facade. Three elevators form the core, and the interior appears open. The high-rise remained a concept and was not feasible at the time. The design emphasizes the lightness of the building in contrast to the heavy structure of Berlin's old buildings. This image is from the ideas competition for a high-rise at Friedrichstrasse station and is part of the collection of the Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin.
