The history of the advertising agency Dorland is a story of advertising par excellence. It crystallizes the emergence of the industry as well as the staging of the world of goods, consumption, and prosperity in Germany. With the corporate history of the agency founded in 1883 in the USA and expanded to Germany in 1928, in the midst of the "roaring twenties," the history of advertising is presented for the first time using a concrete example. The volume is richly illustrated with hundreds of advertisements and posters from more than 120 years. Some of these come from the Bauhaus master Herbert Bayer and other "Bauhaus" members who worked for Dorland from the late 1920s and influenced international graphic design well into the post-war period.
