The Lamy 2000 series – consisting of fountain pen, mechanical pencil, ballpoint pen – stood out at its market launch in 1966 due to its functional aesthetics: a fountain pen made of matte plastic combined with a spring-mounted stainless steel clip instead of golden flourishes. An unusual material combination at the time, especially for objects mainly used as status symbols. Simple design took on a symbolic-social function: owners of this pen, market research showed, are said to have a sense of understatement and appreciate the clear spindle shape as a sign of their modern and progressive outlook on life. While attributions may change, the aesthetics remain: especially the fountain pen appears as if made in one piece, as the nib consistently continues the spindle shape and brings it to a conclusion. One body, designed for writing. (OEM)
