Designer: Hedwig Bollhagen

"The ritz decors for everyday tableware developed by Hedwig Bollhagen are an objectification of ceramic tradition. The typical Bollhagen decors are created by a special technique and have a high recognition value:"
"On the raw, leather-hard shards, a thin, liquid black clay layer is applied before the first firing process. Ceramicists and ceramic painters then finely carve geometric or asymmetrical patterns and details into the surface by hand, partially revealing the lighter color of the raw clay shards. Afterwards, the two-tone decor is glazed transparently."
"Hedwig Bollhagen was co-founder and namesake of the HB workshops for ceramics, where since 1934 in Marwitz, Brandenburg, utilitarian tableware and architectural ceramics have been artisanally produced."

"On their own website, the HB workshop writes:"

"In the original decors of the HB-ritz series, the influence of the Bauhaus on Hedwig Bollhagen becomes particularly clear. They are applied with black engobe on the pure clay shards, refined by sgraffito technique, and glazed transparently. Patterns with a high recognition value emerge, revealing Hedwig Bollhagen's extraordinary talent to elevate form through decor. Due to its incomparable elegance in black and sand-colored decor, the Ritz collection has now gained worldwide attention."
