Designer: Enzo Mari, 1962

Curved metal band made of rolled stainless steel sheet: stamped, ground, bent, and satin-finished – An elegant, sculptural letter opener with a double blade. The Italian designer Enzo Mari created this desk jewel back in 1962.

The plainly functional designed object stands in formal contrast to old-fashioned, dagger-like tools with ivory handles and blunt blades.

Enzo Mari is one of the masters of Italian design. Novara 1932 – Milan 2020. He lived his entire life in Milan, where he originally moved to train as an artist. His work ranges from design to painting and graphics to installation design. He was both a university lecturer and a political activist. His characteristic style with minimalist shapes and consistent use of materials is considered fundamental to the history of Italian design and the development of its role on the world stage. Mari collaborated with Danese Milano during a strong growth phase of the company, which allowed him to experiment with techniques and create installations, sculptures, and products that became milestones in the history of Italian design.
