The Bauhaus takes off!
That's what you might think when looking at Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain's small ring-shaped mocha cup, also known as the "airplane cup," from 1930. Trained at the Bauhaus in Weimar, Friedlaender-Wildenhain taught at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle. In 1930, she designed this cup and saucer. Its special feature: the cup fits perfectly into a ring-shaped recess in the saucer, preventing it from slipping back and forth, which proves particularly useful when traveling by plane, train, or ship.
The re-edition of this remarkable ring-shaped mocha cup is being produced by KPM Berlin. The world-famous royal blue scepter mark of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory, prominently displayed on the top of the saucer, lends this piece a special touch.
