About the father of modern graphic design ...
Herbert Bayer, student and young master at the Bauhaus and proponent of the "Total Design" concept: This concise biography focuses on the key stages of Bayer's life – especially his time at the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau and his work as an independent advertising graphic artist in Berlin. There, he worked for the consumer goods industry, publishing houses, as well as for government offices and state-affiliated institutions, and after 1933 he also put his advertising ideas at the service of the Nazi rulers. After emigrating to the USA, Bayer was successful as an art director from 1938 and, through his work for the Bauhaus exhibitions in 1938 and 1968, became one of the defining figures in the reception of the Bauhaus. Newly evaluated text and image documents make this book an indispensable read about one of the leading avant-gardists of the 20th century, and thus also about the history of the Bauhaus and graphic design.
