Designer: Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain, 1930

the bauhaus takes off!

That's what you might think when you look at the small ring mocha cup, also known as the airplane cup, by Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain from 1930. Trained at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, Friedlaender-Wildenhain taught at the Burg Griebichenstein Art Academy in Halle. In 1930, she designed this cup with a saucer. Its special feature: the cup fits perfectly into a ring-shaped recess in the saucer and thus cannot slip back and forth, which is particularly helpful when traveling by plane, train, or ship.

The re-edition of this remarkable ring-shaped mocha cup is being produced by the Berlin-based KPM. The world-famous royal blue scepter mark of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory, clearly visible on the top of the saucer, lends this piece a special touch.
