grasping, touching, hearing, experiencing - Hugo Kükelhaus invented the category of grasping toys for toddlers in 1939 and initially called them "allbedeut". The sensory-motor wooden toy promotes senses, motor skills, and imagination in early childhood. The designer, architect, and carpenter was inspired by the pedagogical approach of Friedrich Fröbel, the founder of kindergarten. The proportions, the elaborated details, the wood material, and its surface are well thought out and become more beautiful the more they are touched and played with. Kükelhaus's design principle was the idea: "weak stimuli trigger - moderate stimuli develop - strong stimuli inhibit - overly strong stimuli destroy."
