Marianne Brandt is known for her metal work. This includes silverware and ashtrays, which are now among the design highlights of the Bauhaus.

Her enthusiasm for metal, mirroring and light reflections is also evident in her photographic work. Her photos often feature mirrored spheres in which the surrounding space is reflected.

In this photo, Marianne Brandt can be seen with her camera, and to the left is the window of her studio in the Bauhaus Dessau with its balconies. The area surrounding the Bauhaus, which was still sparsely built up at the time, is covered in snow.

The original photograph as well as the negative of the image are in the collection of the Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin.
