The richly illustrated volume looks at 80 years of photography from Chicago from both sides of the Atlantic. At the New Bauhaus and later the Institute of Design, teachers such as László Moholy-Nagy, György Kepes, followed by Arthur Siegel, Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind taught a free approach to the medium that influenced generations of photographers.
To kick off the big Bauhaus anniversary in 2019, the Bauhaus Archive / Museum für Gestaltung, Berlin is presenting its collection of "New Bauhaus Photography", which is unique in Europe. The exhibit presents the actors and institutions that have inspired, created, collected and presented photography to the public since the founding of the New Bauhaus in Chicago in 1937. The broad spectrum of images ranges from abstract photograms and material experiments to concept and process-oriented series of works. Contemporary works from Chicago round off the picture and reflect the significance of the Bauhaus idea for the present.
With works by: Harry Callahan, György Kepes, Nathan Lerner, László Moholy-Nagy, Arthur Siegel, Aaron Siskind, and many others
