Sōri Yanagi, born in 1915 as the son of the founder of the Japanese Folk Crafts Museum, Soetsu Yanagi, studied art and architecture. He is regarded as one of the most important industrial designers of postwar Japan. His passion for organically curved design gives furniture and everyday objects a particularly harmonious character. The designer, founder of the Yanagi Industrial Design Institute in Tokyo, combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with industrial design and modern materials and manufacturing techniques.
