Designer: max peiffer-watenphul, ca. 1921

One of the most beautiful weavings from the early Bauhaus period is the tapestry by Max Peiffer Watenphul. The composition of form and color contrasts shows the influence of the teachings of Johannes Itten.

Itten presented the tapestry as a gift to the Bauhaus Archive when it was founded in Darmstadt in 1961. The colors for the poster print were determined based on the back of the tapestry, which was still slightly faded. The poster shows a section.
