Designer: Hedwig Bollhagen

The incised decorations for everyday tableware developed by hedwig bollhagen represent an objectification of ceramic tradition. The typical bollhagen decorations are created using a special technique and have a high recognition value:
On the raw, leather-hard shards, a thin, liquid black clay layer is applied before the first firing process. Ceramicists and ceramic painters then finely carve geometric or asymmetrical patterns and details into the surface by hand, partially revealing the lighter color of the raw clay shards. Afterwards, the two-tone decoration is glazed transparently.
hedwig bollhagen was co-founder and namesake of the hb workshops for ceramics, where since 1934 utilitarian tableware and architectural ceramics have been artisanally produced in Marwitz, Brandenburg.
