Hasami Porcelain™ from Japan combines modern shapes, artisanal tradition, and materials that reveal and convey their making and natural origin.
The simple elements in uniform diameters and heights allow for versatile use.
Hasami Porcelain™ was designed in 2012 by Takuhiro Shinomoto, who comes from Japan and now lives in California.
Cups, mugs, pots, plates, and bowls: Hasami Porcelain™ is a modular set of tableware made from cylindrical elements. The plates can also be used as lids for the bowls or as coasters. All elements have diameters of 8.5 cm, 14.5 cm, 22 cm, or 25.5 cm. The heights are 2.1 cm (plates), 5.5 cm and 7.2 cm (bowls and cups), 8.9 cm and 10.6 cm (mugs and pots) – thus the parts of the Hasami Porcelain™ tableware can be combined and stacked.
Hasami Porcelain™ gains liveliness and warmth through the material used – sand-colored earthenware, which varies slightly each time and shifts between light brown, beige, and gray. The unglazed version has a somewhat rough surface. The earthy, coarse, almost primeval texture arises in the production process through the slightly different composition of various clay minerals.
Additionally, Hasami Porcelain™ is also available in glossy light gray glaze or matte black, with the rim and underside left unglazed. The lids made of ash wood provide a beautiful contrast of materials.
Hasami Porcelain™ is dishwasher safe and can also be used in the microwave. However, it must not be used in the oven. The ash wood elements can be used as lids or trays, but do not tolerate prolonged moisture and should only be wiped clean.
