The high weight and rough surface of the working areas make grinding and crushing the ingredients easier. The outer surface of the vessel and the handle of the pestle, on the other hand, are polished to a greasy shine: the composition of the extremely hard igneous rock made of feldspar, quartz, and mica comes into effect on the smooth surface.
