New publication series 'Bauhaus Books' | First volume on women Bauhaus photographers
With “Bauhaus Books”, the Bauhaus Archive / Museum of Design is launching a new publication series with the Walther and Franz König Bookshop publishing house. The series opens with “Bauhaus Books No. 1 – The Women Photographers,” on the occasion of the exhibition “New Woman. New Vision. The Bauhaus Women Photographers” at the Museum of Photography, Berlin (through October 4, 2026).
'Bauhaus Books' opens up access to our world's largest Bauhaus collection and makes the Bauhaus's relevance visible to a broad audience. As varied as the formats—from handy paperbacks to large-format catalogues—are the series' thematic focuses: exhibition companion books, publications on exercises from the Bauhaus school's curriculum, and publications addressing specific historical and contemporary research questions.
Bauhaus Books No. 1 – The Women Photographers
Our image of the Bauhaus is still shaped to a significant extent by photographs. Many of these iconic images were created by outstanding women photographers whose work remained invisible for decades despite its influence. Their work ranges from portrait and architectural photography to advertising and reportage, as well as abstract and experimental forms of imagery. “Bauhaus Books No. 1 – The Women Photographers” presents 25 of these women photographers from our collection for the first time and, with numerous illustrations, offers a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of rediscovered photographic history.
