New publication series “Bauhaus Books” | First volume on women photographers at the Bauhaus

With “Bauhaus Books,” the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung is launching a new publication series with the Walther und Franz König bookstore publishing house. The first volume, “Bauhaus Books No. 1 — The Women Photographers,” is being published to coincide with the exhibition “New Woman. New Vision. The Women Photographers of the Bauhaus” at the Museum für Fotografie, Berlin (through 4 October 2026).

“Bauhaus Books” opens up access to our world’s largest Bauhaus collection and makes the Bauhaus’s continued relevance visible to a broad audience. Just as varied as the formats — from handy paperbacks to large-format catalogues — are the series’ thematic focuses: exhibition companion books, publications on exercises from the Bauhaus school’s curriculum, and works addressing specific historical and contemporary research questions.

Bauhaus Books No. 1 — The Women Photographers

Our image of the Bauhaus continues to be shaped significantly by photographs. Many of these iconic images were created by outstanding women photographers whose work remained invisible for decades despite their influence. Their range extends from portrait and architectural photography to advertising and reportage, as well as abstract and experimental forms of photography. “Bauhaus Books No. 1 — The Women Photographers” presents 25 of these women photographers from our collection for the first time and, with numerous illustrations, offers insight into a fascinating chapter of rediscovered photographic history.
