Designer: sori yanagi, 1954

Japanese design from the 1950s - a timelessly beautiful classic. This stool made of polypropylene is the first piece of seating furniture to be mass-produced entirely from plastic and without the use of fiberglass. It owes its name 'elephant' stool to its elegantly flowing shapes and wide legs. The lightweight stool is weatherproof, compact and can be stacked to save space.
Sori Yanagi, founder of the Yanagi Industrial Design Institute in Tokyo, combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with industrial design, modern materials and manufacturing techniques.
