Pepper / Salt / Spice Grinder Sottsass | Medium

Loud, colorful, and cheerful, these small table sculptures are by Ettore Sottsass, the master of Italian design.

Cylinders, discs, spheres - stacked on top of one another in contrasting colors, they become sturdy pepper mills. In fact, they are just basic shapes with familiar mechanisms. But their arrangement and colors are provocative: their message seems to be, “Play with me.” Unusual and thought-provoking in the 1980s, they are classics once again today. The mill has a ceramic grinding mechanism. (oem)
