A sense of beauty combined with functionality—this combination is characteristic of many Marcel Breuer designs, and especially of the D4 (formerly B4). Created in 1926/27, this folding tubular steel club chair with webbing upholstery was advertised in the first Breuer tubular steel catalogue as “particularly suitable” for ships and sports grounds, as well as terraces, summer houses, gardens and garden cafés. This sporty, airy ambiance is reflected in its construction; the D4 still feels light and springy today. Here, the step into modernity becomes tangible, drawing attention to its functional design.
