Designer: Marianne Brandt, 1928/29

Marianne Brandt is known for her metalwork, including silverware and ashtrays, which are now among the design highlights of the Bauhaus.

Her enthusiasm for metal, reflections, and light reverberations is also evident in her photographic work. Her photos frequently feature mirrored spheres reflecting the surrounding space.

In this photo, Marianne Brandt herself can be seen with her camera, with the window of her studio at the Bauhaus in Dessau and its balconies to the left. The area surrounding the Bauhaus, which was still sparsely built at the time, is covered in snow.

The original photograph as well as the negative of the image are in the collection of the Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin.
