Designer: Marianne Brandt, 1928/29

Marianne Brandt is known for her metal works. Among them are silver services or ashtrays, which today belong to the design highlights of the Bauhaus.

Also in her photographic work, the enthusiasm for metal, for reflections and light reflections becomes visible again and again. Mirrored spheres appear repeatedly in her photos, in which the surrounding space is reflected.

In this shot, Marianne Brandt herself can be seen with her camera, to the left of her the window of her studio in the Bauhaus Dessau with the balconies. The surroundings of the Bauhaus, then still sparsely built, lie under snow.

The original photograph as well as the negative of the shot are in the collection of the Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin.
