Designer: Mies van der Rohe, 1922

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed the "Hochhaus Friedrichstraße" in 1922 with a trident-shaped floor plan and a glass facade. Three elevators form the core, and the interior space feels open. The high-rise remained a concept and was not feasible at the time. The design emphasizes the lightness of the building in contrast to the heavy Berlin old building structure. The image comes from the design competition for a high-rise at Friedrichstraße station and is part of the Bauhaus Archive Berlin collection.
