The design classic was personally designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld in 1924.
As his first model, the then 24-year-old Wagenfeld created this lamp after being accepted as a journeyman into the Bauhaus workshop in Weimar and receiving an assignment from Moholy-Nagy. As Wagenfeld said, Bauhaus designs were intended to be industrial products and look like them too. In reality, however, they were made using traditional craftsmanship. This lamp is now produced in exactly the same way, according to the original specifications, dimensions, and materials.
Tecnolumen began reissuing the lamp in 1979, consciously following Wagenfeld's highly minimalist design. Naturally, both versions of the lamp were included, and they still fit into any setting. Which version one prefers is simply a matter of taste. While the designer's first design called for a nickel-plated base, the glass base was designed later that same year, making the lamp appealing to a broad audience even today.
