Loud, colorful, and cheerful are the little table sculptures by Ettore Sottsass, the grand master of Italian design.
Cylinders, discs, spheres - stacked on top of one another in contrasting colors, they become sturdy pepper mills. They are really just basic shapes with a familiar mechanism. But their arrangement and colors are provocative: their message seems to be, “Play with me.” Unusual and thought-provoking in the 1980s, they are classics once again today.
