One of the most beautiful tapestries from the early period of the Bauhaus is the wall hanging by Max Peiffer-Watenphul. The composition of shape and color contrasts shows the influence of Johannes Itten's teaching.

Itten gave the tapestry as a gift to the Bauhaus Archive at its founding in Darmstadt in 1961. The colors for the poster print were determined based on the back of the tapestry, which is still little faded. The poster shows a detail.
