Bauhaus takes off!
That is what one might think when looking at Marguerite Friedländer-Wildenhain's 1930 Ring Mocca Cup, also known as the airplane cup. Trained at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, Friedlaender-Wildenhain taught at the Burg Giebichenstein School of Art in Halle. In 1930, she designed this cup with a saucer. What makes it special is that the cup fits perfectly into a ring-shaped recess in the saucer and therefore cannot slide back and forth, which proves particularly useful when traveling by plane, train, or ship.
This re-edition of the remarkable Ring Mocca Cup is produced by Berlin's KPM. The world-famous royal blue mark of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory, clearly visible on the top of the saucer, gives this piece a distinctive touch.
