Designer: Ettore Sottsass

A beautiful shape: rounded stainless steel caps and glass cylinders reveal their 1970s origins.

Ettore Sottsass’s cruet set, part of an entire collection of tableware, is based on the simple combination of a cylinder and a hemisphere. The oil and vinegar containers, also made of glass and stainless steel, have plastic pourers. Stainless steel pins, repeating the cylinder shape, protrude from a base plate — composed of a rectangle and a semicircle — and hold the vessels in place. The semicircular shape is repeated in the handle of the cruet set, which echoes the rounded caps at the center of the containers. The unity of the cruet set is based on the repetition of basic shapes and influenced countless vessel designs in the years that followed.

Cruet set: Oil, vinegar, salt and pepper shakers made of polished 18/10 stainless steel and crystal glass.
