In 1955, Hans Maria Wingler met Walter Gropius at the opening of the Ulm School of Design. Together they networked with former Bauhaus students who had emigrated or fled during the Nazi era. In 1960, Wingler founded the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin, where the world's largest collection on the subject of Bauhaus is archived and researched to this day.
The book by Hans Maria Wingler and Christian Wolsdorff was published to mark the 60th anniversary of the Bauhaus Archive, and was reissued to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus.
